Chris Townsend, PhD shares strategies for educators to use to live a lifestyle of self-care that allows us to be our best for the students we teach.
Step 1
Slow down and admit it is stressful and complex when you are in a space to acknowledge it meaningfully and not admit it out of exhaustion.
Step 2
Begin naming the specifics of the burdens and consistently stressful moments. The clearer you can identify the places and spaces where it is felt the most, the more effective you will be in determining what to do about it.
Step 3
Bring about the change you need at work and home by making small shifts that you can do today. Remind yourself that the only person you can control is yourself and how you respond to situations you face.
Step 4
Intentionally enjoy the moments of success when a student learns rather than moving on to keep pace and denying yourself celebrating the reason you became an educator.
